Theresa Villiers MP met Andy Lord, Commissioner for TfL, when he visited Parliament last week and she raised a long list of issues of importance to her Barnet constituents.
Speaking after the meeting, Theresa said, “I want TfL to start listening to the people I represent. This just does not happen often enough because of the intransigence of the Mayor of London who oversees TfL and decides what approach it will take.”
“In my meeting with Commissioner Lord, I spoke up for people unhappy about having to pay the £12.50 a day Ulez change because they can’t afford a new compliant car. Mayor Khan should scrap the expansion of Ulez to the outer suburbs.”
“I also urged Mr Lord to provide TfL funding to help support continued operation of the 84B bus from Potters Bar to Barnet Hospital. I repeated the appeal I have made many times to reroute the 384 bus away from Salisbury Road. And I sought his help for measures to tackle speeding in St Albans Road.”
“I reiterated my strong opposition to TfL plans to build over the car parks at Cockfosters and High Barnet stations.”
“I made it clear that I am against plans for new bus lanes in the A1000 in Barnet High Street and Whetstone High Road. These would cause massive traffic congestion and harm local high street businesses. The £1.6m due to be spent on this project should devoted to pothole repairs instead.”
“I expressed general concern about the many measures adopted by the Mayor and TfL which are making it more difficult for cars, vans and taxis to get around London. I just want people to be able to get to where they want to be without too much cost and hassle.”
“Mr Lord responded courteously, but it’s clear that we’ll only get real change if we elect Susan Hall as Mayor next May.”
In Parliament this week, Theresa highlighted the plight of people with impaired mobility who depend on their cars for the freedom to live the lives they want to lead. You can read the Hansard report of that question and the Minister’s reply here.
