Barnet MP, Theresa Villiers, has condemned in the strongest terms the horrific attacks by Hamas on Israel. She has issued the following statement:
"These killings are vile and abhorrent. As well as attacking soldiers defending Israel, these Hamas terrorists have butchered innocent civilians. Even children seem to have been targeted. This carnage is truly shocking. It has to be one of the worst terror attacks of this century. I utterly condemn what has happened. I strongly back Israel's right to defend itself.
I cannot believe these murders would have been possible without weapons and assistance from Iran. This is yet another example of the malevolent and evil role played by Iran in a number of conflicts in the Middle East.
Finally, I have seen the footage of individuals seemingly 'celebrating' what has happened. It is sickening that such a thing could take place in the streets of this city. I have reported these videos to the police and have urged them to provide reassurance patrols to support the safety of the Jewish community. The community will always have my full support. We must all stand in solidarity with Israel in its hour of need."
Ms Villiers is among over 300 Parliamentarians to have signed a letter coordinated by the All Party Britain Israel Group condemning the Hamas attacks. That letter is attached below.
