Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has introduced members of the Cypriot community to the Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch, Secretary of State for Business and President of the Board of Trade.
The meeting took place at a Conservative event last week hosted by Theresa Villiers at the prestigious Travellers Club in Pall Mall.
Mrs Badenoch spoke about the opportunities that international trade liberalisation offers to businesses in the UK and Cyprus.
Those attending the function included photographer and reporter, Doros Partasides; Antonis Savvides, Elias Dinenis, Yiannis Stergides from the Board of British Cypriots; Theo Theodorou from Lobby for Cyprus; George Hadjipavlis, from Conservatives Friends of Cyprus; Andreas Papaevripides, President of the World Federation of Cypriots; and Andre Chris, President of the Enfield Southgate Conservative Association.
Speaking afterwards, Theresa said “I was delighted to be able to bring members of the Cypriot community together to meet Kemi Badenoch. She is a rising star of the Conservative Party and it was good for her to hear from British Cypriots about issues that matter to them.”
“I am always keen to encourage trade and business links between Cyprus and the UK,” Theresa continued. “It was great that the Trade Secretary heard at first hand about the success of British Cypriot businesses.”
Mrs Badenoch was formally presented with the book by Doros Partasides “Faces of Cyprus”. Copies of this collection of photos have been presented to many Ministers and famous figures over the years.
During the presentation Doros Partasides said to the Secretary of State that he hoped the book would help her get to know Cypriots and inspire her to get involved in efforts to reunite Cyprus.
