Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has condemned Labour for announcing that if it wins power, it will build on the green belt and bring back centrally imposed legally binding housing targets.
Theresa has been a vocal campaigner against open spaces being developed and she wants local councils to have more control over what should be built in their areas.
Recently she led a group of Conservative MPs that successfully persuaded the government to water down housing targets.
“The choice for voters is becoming clearer as Labour announces a policy that will be to the detriment of Barnet and its green spaces,” said Theresa.
“So many local people share my view that we must protect the suburbs and our environment; and we have worked hard for years to achieve this.
“We need more homes but they need to be the right homes in the right places. London's green belt provides the city's green lungs and losing it would do severe environmental damage. It would also see urban sprawl out into the countryside."
"I will fight against Labour's attack on our precious green belt. There will be a clear choice at the general election between Conservatives who will protect it and Labour who will not."
