This privacy notice relates to the personal data processed by the Office of Theresa Villiers MP, Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet, in relation to casework and policy queries. The Data Controller is Theresa Villiers MP.

What does the Office do?

The Office discharges the duties and functions of an elected Member of Parliament. As part of this work, we conduct constituency casework and respond to policy queries, for which we need to process personal data of constituents. We also manage an email list for the purpose of sending Theresa’s e-newsletter containing information about forthcoming advice surgeries and Theresa’s work in her constituency and in Parliament.

How do we process data?

This office processes constituents’ data under the lawful basis of public task and democratic engagement. In instances where this lawful basis is not sufficient and explicit consent is required, a member of the office will contact you to establish your consent.

We are committed to ensuring that the information we collect and use is appropriate for this purpose, and does not constitute an invasion of your privacy.

Will we share your data with anyone else?

If you have contacted Theresa about a personal or policy issue, we may pass your personal data on to a third-party in the course of dealing with you, such as local authorities, government agencies, public bodies, health trusts, regulators, and so on. Any third parties that we may share your data with are obliged to keep your details securely, and to use them only for the basis upon which they were originally intended. When they no longer need your data to fulfil this service, they will dispose of the details in line with our procedures.

We will not share the personal information of members of the Theresa Villiers MP e-newsletter with third parties (unless individuals on that list have also be in touch about casework or policy matters in which case we will handle contacts with third parties in the way set out in the preceding paragraph).

What rights do I have to my personal data?

Privacy notice for information collected by Theresa Villiers in a political capacity

This privacy statement tells you how Theresa Villiers, working in a political capacity separately to her role as MP for Chipping Barnet, collects and uses personal data via this website, and in other ways, for the purposes of assisting you with enquiries, for matters in the public interest, and also for democratic engagement. This website is run by Theresa Villiers and she is the Data Controller.

The data that we collect

The information that we collect from you can include your name, email address, address including postcode, telephone number, survey and petition responses, form submissions and messages that you send to us.

We may also collect other personal data, such as your gender and date of birth, National Insurance numbers, Passport numbers and special category data as is permitted in clauses 23 and 24 of schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act.

For the purposes of political campaigning, we are legally entitled to collect and process data from the Electoral Role.

If you have contacted us using electronic means, we will also collect further information, such as the IP address of your computer, which we will only access if legally required to do so.

How we process and use data

The data that we collect is processed in line with data protection rules. It is stored securely and we do not keep it longer than is necessary or beyond the term defined in our data retention policy.

Casework and policy data received via this website are processed primarily under the lawful basis of public as part of the work Theresa Villiers does as an MP. Handling of this data is covered in the MP Privacy Notice above, not this statement which covers information collected and/or held by Theresa Villiers in a political capacity.

By subscribing to a newsletter or completing a survey, form or petition, you are providing your data willingly and with consent for the purposes of communication and campaigning. We will not add your details to our mailing list unless you have given us permission to do so. We may share this data within the wider Conservative Party. We will never sell your data and if you no longer wish to here from us, you can opt-out at any time.

We ensure that our service providers comply with the same high standards that we do, including complying with the Privacy Shield framework for data sent outside the European Economic Area.
