Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has been in touch with Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) to urge them to tackle disruption on Great Northern rail services caused by large scale timetables changes.
There were big problems on the route yesterday when the new timetable came into operation for the first time, and commuters in the constituency were hit with cancellations and delays again this morning.
Theresa has spoken to GTR's senior stakeholder manager to press the operator sort out the problems which have occurred.
“GTR need to get their act together. After the disruption yesterday on the first day of the new timetable for the Great Northern line, they needed to do a lot better now the working week has started.
"The timetable change is extensive and commuters were braced for some problems, but it's a big disappointment that cancellations and disruption continued this morning,” said Theresa.
“Oakleigh Park and New Southgate residents are already up in arms about the temporary reduction in morning peak services, and they should not have to put up with further disruption and delays. I will keep up the pressure on GTR to improve the quality of service they are providing to passengers."
The new timetables across GTR-operated franchises will deliver a significant overall increase in services, including four trains an hour during the off peak period at New Barnet, Oakleigh Park and New Southgate. While that is good news for commuters in Barnet, the bad news is that last minute issues with Network Rail have lead to a temporary reduction in morning peak services at Oakleigh Park and New Southgate. Theresa has obtained a promise from GTR that the services removed will be restored to the timetable in December after new rolling stock arrives.
