Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has wished her Muslim constituents ‘Eid Mubarak’ as Ramadan ends this week.
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the month where Muslims fast from dawn until dusk. Ramadan is based on the phases of the moon, which means that the dates change every year. When Ramadan takes place in the summer, this can mean fasting for fifteen or sixteen hours at a time. Eid al-Fitr is a three-day celebration which this year began on the 6th July.
Theresa Villiers said: “One of the advantages of being MP for Chipping Barnet is the opportunity to understand and participate in the significant occasions for our different communities, and I would like to wish all my Muslim constituents Eid Mubarak.
“It takes great discipline to fast through Ramadan, and observing it through the UK’s long hours of summer daylight is no mean feat. I would like to wish all my constituents a very happy and blessed Eid.”
For those celebrating Eid in the borough of Barnet, an Eid fun day will be taking place at the North Finchley Mosque on Sunday 10th July from 1.45-6.30pm.
