Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has once again provided enthusiastic support for the Open Door Appeal being run by Christ Church in St Alban's Road in High Barnet. She attended a Christmas Fair and fundraising event at the church on Saturday and received an update on the Open Door Appeal.
Christ Church has bought the building next door to the church and plan to open it as a centre to support the elderly in Barnet providing a range of advice, hospitality and services.
This was Theresa’s second visit to the Open Door project. She received an update on the appeal from Revd Nigel Taylor, vicar at Christ Church, and from fundraiser, Jenni Blythe.
Speaking afterwards, Theresa said, “I was delighted to learn that Christ Church have raised over £500,000 towards creating a new centre to support the needs of older people. This will be a brilliant facility once it is up and running, providing friendship, hospitality and advice for older people as well as running educational, health and respite care programmes.”
"The congregation have done a huge amount of work to support this wonderful project but there is another £1.5 million to raise. I wish them well in all their efforts."
