Theresa Villiers has spoken out on development plans for two sites in Whetstone in her Chipping Barnet constituency, calling for these proposals to be changed to reflect the concerns of local residents.
Following a briefing from GKA Ltd on their latest plans for housing to replace the B&Q store on Whetstone High Road, Theresa Villiers said:
“There are a number of proposals for new housing development in Whetstone High Road and the surrounding area. That includes the GKA plan for the B&Q site. When I met with GKA I made it very clear that it was vital that they changed their proposals to respond to the concerns of local residents. They need to do more to moderate the impact of the development on traffic flow through the junctions between the High Road and Friern Barnet Lane and Totteridge Lane. They need to provide more parking spaces so overspill parking doesn’t clog up surrounding streets. And they should reduce the height of the flats they propose.”
“I’ve been working with residents and with local ward councillors, Richard and Alison Cornelius and Caroline Stock, to try to get these proposals changed.”
“I have also been campaigning for amendments to the Sweets Way development plans from Annington Homes. Their first planning application was rightly rejected by the Council. I believe that it is vital that the developers of Sweets Way, which is just over the other side of the High Road from the B&Q site, listen to the representations I and local residents have made and reduce the density of their proposal and take more action to ensure it doesn’t impact negatively on local roads, parking and other infrastructure.”
