Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has nominated the new Bayleaf restaurant, Whetstone High Road, and its owner Tof Miah, for the House of Commons Tiffin Cup Awards 2014.
The Tiffin Cup competition, which is run by MPs, is in its 9th year, and aims to find the best South Asian restaurant in the country in a bid to raise money for the World Vision charity.
Secret diners are in the process of completing visits to all the restaurants nominated by their local MP, and the shortlist of 10 finalists will be announced later in the week.
Theresa said: “I am delighted to nominate the newly opened Bayleaf Restaurant for this year’s Tiffin Cup Awards. 18 years ago Tof Miah started the Bayleaf as a takeaway and it has gone from strength to strength picking up many awards and accolades for its wonderful food. I am pleased that we can now enjoy that good food in a stylish and relaxed setting in Tof’s new restaurant on Whetstone High Road. I congratulate him and his excellent team of staff on the launch of this new restaurant.”
“I have taken friends for dinner at the Bayleaf and warmly recommend it to my constituents. I wish Tof the best of luck in this year’s competition and hope the Bayleaf gets through to the finals.”
“The Tiffin Cup Awards is a great way to promote local business and raise money for charity. World Vision does impressive work to address the underlying causes of global poverty.”
Bayleaf restaurant owner, Tof Miah, said: “We are delighted that our honourable MP Theresa Villiers has nominated us to compete in the Parliamentary Tiffin Cup Competition”
“This is a great opportunity for our establishment and we will try our utmost to be victorious in this contest for the constituency of Chipping Barnet”
“Our chef is eager to get into the cook-off and thrive in these stages. During these stages the principles of Bayleaf Restaurant will be the same, which is to cook hygienically and freshly using the best ingredients that money can buy”.
The competition culminates in a ‘cook off’ and will be held on 8th July, at Bellamy’s restaurant in the House of Commons.
