Commenting on the debate, Theresa said: “As a Eurosceptic, resisting the transfer of further powers to Brussels has been one of the defining issues of my time in public life. I fought hard against those who wanted the UK to join the Euro and against the European Constitution and the Treaty of Lisbon.”
“Our relationship with Europe needs fundamental change so that it is based fairly and squarely on the kind of trade and commerce links that people thought they were getting when the UK joined what was then the Common Market in 1971, not ever closer political union. That is what David Cameron is determined to deliver.”
“It is nearly 40 years since the British people were given the chance to vote on our membership of the EU. It is absolutely right that in 2017 they are the ones who decide whether we stay in Europe on a reformed and renegotiated basis or whether we leave.”
