The Duke first visited East Barnet School to celebrate the formal opening of the new state of the art building. The school, which has been designed to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient, is now a Specialist Technology School and includes its own ‘Robot Lab’. It also benefits from a four court sports hall, gym and all-weather pitches which are available for the community to use.
At the new £50 million Barnet College Campus on Wood Street, the Duke unveiled a plaque to mark the opening that will be mounted on neighbouring Tudor Hall, which has stood on the site next to Barnet College for five hundred years. The group were then treated to a demonstration by students studying beauty therapy and entertainment by a group of Nepalese dancers who are studying English. Refreshments were provided by catering students.
Theresa said, “I am delighted that two such excellent educational facilities have opened in Chipping Barnet.”
“Local students who are lucky enough to attend either or perhaps both institutions will have access to the most amazing 21st Century learning facilities, which will surely give them the best possible chance of success in the future.”
