The Rt Hon Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, attended a meeting in Parliament on Wednesday to support World Cancer Day, which takes place this year on Saturday 4th February.
Representatives from seven major cancer charities, Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Care, Breast Cancer Now, CLIC Sargent, Anthony Nolan, Bowel Cancer UK and Marie Curie came along to talk to MPs about the work that they do. All charities are selling ‘unity bands’ on their respective websites, consisting of two parts knotted together, to represent strength in unity. The charities are aiming to make a bigger impact by joining forces to raise awareness.
The suggested donation for the bands is £2 and all proceeds go to the relevant charity.
Theresa Villiers said: “Almost all of us know someone who is, or has been, affected by cancer. One in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime.
“Supporting World Cancer Day and buying a unity band gives us a chance to support all those living with cancer, or helps fund research to treat and prevent it.”
