Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers joined local police on the beat in East Barnet on 15th December, on one of the busiest days of the year for policing in Greater London. MPs across the capital were asked by the Metropolitan Police to #WalktheMet, heading out with a local police officer on their beat. Participants included Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes, Boris Johnson, James Berry, Victoria Borwick and Chris Philp.
Theresa went out on the beat with Constable Sarah Wigley, visiting residents and hearing local concerns in East Barnet village, New Barnet and surrounding streets. East Barnet, like all wards in the borough, has its own neighbourhood team with an officer dedicated to local issues.
Theresa Villiers said: “It was great to join Constable Wigley to see first-hand the work done by the local police in East Barnet.
“I am in regular touch with ward police teams in Barnet when constituents need their help. As MP, people often come to me for help, but to get a real understanding of everyday concerns in my constituency, I try to be in touch all year round, going out to meet people on their doorsteps or at local events. The same is true of community policing. Thanks to officers on the beat like PC Wigley in East Barnet, the police are part of the community rather than just people to contact when there is a problem.
“I'd like to take this opportunity to praise the work done by all police officers in my constituency and across the whole of London. I thank them for their dedicated public service and I pay a particular tribute to all police officers working through the Christmas season this year to keep us safe.”
