Theresa Villiers MP is backing Susan Hall AM in the race to be the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London. Susan is a former leader of the Conservative Group in the London Assembly. Theresa is encouraging Conservative Party members to vote for her in the ballot which opens on 4th July. She has issued the following endorsement:
"Susan has a proven track record of winning elections. She played a major role in winning Harrow Council from Labour last year. This was a great result in a set of elections which we all know were very difficult for the Conservatives across London.
She has faced Sadiq Khan in the London Assembly for six years, calling him out on his failures. She has worked at City Hall scrutinising the GLA budget, the Met and TfL.
She comes from the suburbs and understands the suburbs. She has strongly supported my campaign against building on station car parks, attending meetings and protests I have organised. She has campaigned against tower blocks in low-rise suburban areas. She has regularly come out with me on the doorstep in Barnet, including in the crucial 2019 general election.
Susan is a no-nonsense plain speaking Conservative who tells it like it is. She created and ran a successful small business.
As Mayor, she would invest £200m to fix the police and improve their record on tackling crime. She would create a specialist unit to deal with burglaries, street robberies and theft. She would build homes in the right places, not on the green belt. She would stop Ulez expansion on day one as Mayor.
I believe that Susan is by far the strongest of the three candidates who have been shortlisted. She is the only one of the three who has fought an election. She is the only one who has held elected office. She is our best chance to beat Mayor Khan and stop Ulez expansion.
Voting is open from 9am on 4th July to 11am on 18th July. Conservative Party members will soon be receiving details on how the ballot will operate. I am urging them vote for Susan Hall. We need to make the right choice because London desperately needs a Conservative Mayor to stop Ulez expansion."
