Operation Gonzales was set up in Barnet in April to target burglars and those who handle stolen goods. After months of under-cover intelligence work by the police, fifty-two addresses were raided this morning. The police uncovered two firearms and a large number of laptops and mobile phones. Forty people have so far been arrested, including eighteen of the top twenty-one in the most harmful offenders category.
Theresa said, “I very much welcome the efforts made by Barnet's police to target those who commit burglary. Today's coordinated raids across the borough send out a strong message that such acts will not go unpunished. I hope these raids act as a firm deterrent to those who seek to carry out criminal activity in Barnet.¬ù"
"Burglary can cause deep distress to its victims, as well as financial loss, and it is absolutely right that the police make it a priority to tackle this crime."
“Although it will certainly be a relief to Barnet residents to know that many of the worst offenders are now off the streets and will face justice, I hope the police’s efforts will help to raise awareness of security in the home and encourage residents to be extra vigilant.”¬ù
