Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, met with important figures of the Greek Cypriot Community: Tony Yerolemou, President of the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood, George Mouskas, President of the Cyprus Union of Ship owners, Andreas Papaevripides, President of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots, and Doros Partasides, member of Chipping Barnet Conservative Association, for their annual informal meeting in Barnet.
Theresa was updated on ongoing inter-communal talks in Cyprus, including President Anastasiades’ proposal for the return of the town of Famagusta. The group also discussed the forthcoming general election and pledged support to Theresa for her campaign.
Speaking after the lunch, Theresa Villiers said: “It was great to sit down with Tony, George, Andreas and Doros for our annual working lunch and to catch up on the situation in Cyprus.”
“I was very interested to hear the latest news regarding ‘the Cyprus Issue’. I am keen to see the negotiations between the president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and the leader of the Turkish community, Derviş Eroğlu, try to find a comprehensive settlement towards Cyprus on a federal solution. I hope that solution comes sooner than later for the benefit of all the communities in Cyprus.”
“It was also a good opportunity to talk about my General Election campaign and I am pleased to have the support of many leading members of the Greek Cypriot community. There is much to do and I know that their help will make a big difference.”
The meeting took place over a working lunch at Savoro Restaurant on Barnet High Street.
