Ms Villiers said: “For many months I have been campaigning against the construction of a new waste disposal plant at Pinkham Way. I believe that this site was completely inappropriate for such a project. I strongly backed local residents who opposed it. I was very concerned about the impact on air quality that hundreds of extra waste lorries would have for people living near Pinkham Way. I was also worried about congestion problems on the North Circular.”
“I welcome the cancellation of the procurement by the North London Waste Authority as a further victory in the campaign against the Pinkham Way proposal. This is the nail in the coffin for the planned mechanical biological treatment plant at Pinkham Way. NLWA’s decision reflects how misconceived the procurement was. The numbers just didn’t stack up.”
“I congratulate the work done by the Pinkham Way Alliance and other residents in achieving this victory”.
NLWA have stated that they are no longer pursuing their controversial plans for a mechanical biological treatment plant at Pinkham Way.
