Theresa Villiers has complained to Barnet Council about the streetworks taking place in Barnet High Street. These have just been extended to 8th September meaning they will have lasted 77 days.
“At a time when retailers are struggling with rising bills, the last thing they need is for their customers to be put off by traffic disruption in the high street,” Theresa said.
“Ever since June, temporary traffic lights and streetworks have meant constant traffic delays.”
“It is unfair to extend this pain for an even longer period. Allowing an extension to 8th September will mean 77 days of disruption. Barnet Council need to get a grip on this and make sure that these contractors finish up and take away their temporary traffic lights.”
As well as raising this with Barnet Council, Theresa will be contacting ESP Electricity – the company for whom the work is being done – and TfL, to seek and end to transport misery on the high street.
The digging appears to be connected with the Shanley Homes housing development just off the high street.
Update 3rd September: The temporary traffic lights in the high street have now been removed and traffic is flowing normally again.
