Standard bearers representing the Royal British Legion, the RAF Association, the Association for Jewish Ex-serviceman and the Royal Logistics Corps led the parade and music was provided by the Metropolitan Police pipe band.
Those taking part in the day's events included the Representative Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Martin Russell, the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Melvin Cohen, the Chairman of the East Barnet branch of the British Legion, Ray Barr, Cllr Joanna Tambourides, and representatives of the TA, veterans, and the Ghurkhas.
The parade started at the East Barnet British Legion in Brookhill Road and marched to the Brookside Methodist Church, where a service was conducted by the Revds Colin Smith and James Mustard.
Theresa said: “It was great to take part in this event and to see so many people turning out to support the start of the Poppy Appeal 2013."
“The work done by the Royal British Legion is enormously important to support our armed forces and veterans and to encourage everyone to remember the people who have bravely defended our safety and freedom. I urge all my constituents to support the Poppy Appeal this year and spare some time on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who have lost their lives in service of our country.”
