Following the meeting with Mr Anastaciades, Theresa said:
“This was a very useful meeting where I was able to hear at first hand Nicos’s ideas on making progress towards a settlement in Cyprus. I very much welcome the innovative thinking Nicos is bringing to the debate on the best way to break the deadlock and deliver a just, lasting and balanced settlement in Cyprus.”
“It is clear that, like the UK and the rest of Europe, Cyprus faces some tough economic challenges. I welcomed the chance to discuss Nicos’ views on the Eurozone and the economic situation in Cyprus.”
“I wished him well with his visit to London and the meetings he will be having with the British Cypriot community and with UK ministers and MPs. My longstanding concern about Cyprus means I value the chance to meet with leading figures from Cyprus politics like Nicos Anastaciades to hear their views on a range of issues, which are of great importance to my British Cypriot constituents.”
