Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet joined staff from McDonald’s on a ‘Big Tidy Up’ community action litter pick in South Friern on Friday.
Mr Atul Pathak, Managing Director of Appt Corporation Ltd, whose McDonald’s franchises include those in High Barnet and Friern Barnet, organised the event. Members of staff from McDonald’s Friern Barnet helped to tidy up Pert Close, Alexandra Road, Sydney Road, and parts of Colney Hatch Lane, along with Conservative councillors, Caroline Stock and Graham Old. Together the group collected over 120 bags of rubbish helping to keep the streets of South Friern clean and tidy.
Theresa said “I thoroughly enjoyed being out in South Friern on Friday. I would like to thank Atul Pathak for putting this all together and giving me the opportunity to come along and support the ‘Big Tidy Up’. It was great to see so many out helping to keep their neighbourhood clean and tidy.”
“Community action days like this one are a great example of businesses giving back to their local areas. I would encourage all of my constituents to see how they can take part in community action projects like this.”
Speaking afterwards Mr. Pathak said "Staff at the McDonald's restaurants that I run in and around Barnet always look to do more than just clean up the rubbish immediately surrounding the restaurant. Many of them live in the community that they serve and love where they live. That's why having the support of our local MP, Theresa Villiers, in instilling a bit of civic pride in our 'Love where you live' clean up events such as around Colney Hatch Lane is so important to us all."
McDonald’s has a four year partnership with the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson’s Capital Clean-up programme and will be taking part in a series of clean-up events across the capital.
