The attack follows two other shootings within the last fortnight: an out of uniform paratrooper and two soldiers, all of North African and Caribbean origin, were shot in a residential suburb of Toulouse and a nearby town. The French President has called for greater security at all religious schools and buildings following this morning’s shootings.
Theresa said, “Racist and anti-semitic attacks are absolutely unacceptable in a civilised society. It is a huge concern that anti-semitism is still a reality for the Jewish community, including in Britain. It is vital that we continue to be vigilant and take the strongest action against those who carry out this kind of horrific crime.”
“It is deeply regrettable that synagogues and Jewish schools in this country need extra security measures but this incident demonstrates how important those measures are. I will be urging the local police to adopt confidence building measures by ensuring they are as visible as possible around synagogues and Jewish schools over the coming days.”
