I would like to wish Eid Mubarak to my constituents who are celebrating Eid al-Adha which begins on Thursday 30th July.
Translating as ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ Eid al-Adha is a time when Muslims come together with family and friends. As they take part in this important celebration of their faith, Eid al-Adha allows Muslims to reflect on personal sacrifice, selflessness and service to others. It is a time to remember all those in need in our community.
Considered one of the holiest events in the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Adha coincides with another pillar of the Islamic faith, the Hajj pilgrimage. Whilst sadly it isn't possible for people to visit Mecca right now because of the Covid outbreak, I hope that constituents have the chance to take part in this important spiritual tradition in future years, if life has returned to something more like normal.
