I would like to wish all my constituents a Happy Christmas, Happy Chanukah and a peaceful and successful New Year.
It has been a momentous year, with the loss of our much loved head of state and the accession of a new king. I’ve set out my thoughts for the festive season in this message on my website.
In these final weeks of 2022 since I sent you my last update, I have been working hard to tackle the problems in the planning system which are threatening Barnet with overdevelopment and high-rise blocks of flats. After an amendment I tabled secured the signatures of 60 MPs, the Communities Secretary, Michael Gove, has brought forward a significant reform package to give local communities a greater say in what is built in their neighbourhood.
I was also present at the Barnet Council planning committee last week to oppose the plans to increase the size of the development in North London Business Park to almost 2500 flats. I warmly welcome the unanimous cross-party decision by councillors to reject these tower blocks.
Looking ahead to 2023, we all know that this will be a very difficult winter. The Government’s energy bill support scheme is helping millions of families and businesses, but many are still experiencing hardship and difficulty as a result of the inflation caused by the Ukraine war. I shall continue to work to secure the help my constituents need at this tough time.
Further information on my campaigns and activities is available in the links below to articles on my website. Please forward this email to anyone you think would be interested to read it or might like to join this mailing list.
All the best
Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers
Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet
Christmas message from Theresa Villiers MP
This will be the first Christmas for three years when people will be able to spend time with friends and family with no Covid restrictions in place. I hope that the Nativity’s spiritual message of hope can resonate with people of all faiths and none. The census might be showing that fewer of us identify as Christians than in past eras, but the religious message of Christmas is still a strong one, despite the hubbub of shopping and food and social events.
