At a blessing and ground breaking ceremony for the new building for St Andrew the Apostle Greek Orthodox School, Chipping Barnet MP, Theresa Villiers, has praised the efforts of the Cypriot community in setting up this highly successful school.
The ceremony took place on the construction site of the new building in North London Business Park in Barnet. The blessing was carried out by the Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira & Great Britain; and St Andrew’s headteacher, Anthony Easton, dug the first spade into the ground.
Speaking at the event which was attended by leading members of the Cypriot community such as Mary Karaolis, Theo Theodorou, and the editor of Parikiaki, Bambos Charalambous, Theresa Villiers said “It is great to see St Andrew’s take a big step closer to its new home.”
“This is a wonderful school. I have backed it since the idea of a Greek Orthodox secondary school was first proposed around ten years ago. I want to praise dedicated campaigners in the Cypriot community who fought successfully to get the school set up.”
“It was an honour for me to be present on this very special occasion. I am sure that St Andrew’s will go from strength to strength in its new building. It’s taken a long time to get to this point. I hope that the construction process goes smoothly to get these top class new facilities open soon.”
